Massage is an ancient healing practice involving the manipulation of soft tissue/muscles. It acts to restore balance to the body’s musculoskeletal system, often impaired by the repetitive tasks and stresses of every day life, leading to pain and discomfort. Holistic derives from the Greek word ‘holos’ meaning ‘whole’.
Holistic or intuitive massage focuses on treating the individual as a whole, taking into account mind, body and spirit, rather than just concentrating on physical conditions. By working the skin, soft tissues and muscles, massage has an effect on all the major and minor systems of the body. It improves general health and promotes profound relaxation or vitality as well as relief from aches, pains or stiffness. Regular massage can relieve headaches, insomnia, fatigue, depression, circulation and stress, amongst numerous other conditions.
Holistic massage can involve gentle or deep tissue massage, depending on the individual needs of the client. It has the ability to redress minor muscular tensions caused by stress, illness and over use, increase energy, invigorate and bring about a feeling of relaxation and calm to the whole body.
Varying degrees of pressure and stretching movements are applied to areas of muscular tension and spasm to help alleviate the discomfort and to promote healing. A detailed medical case history is taken prior to a treatment session to assess the needs of the individual and to identify the best treatment for them.
